Our Prayers in the Psalms for this week is Psalms 48, a joyful composition by king David. He begins his praise by stating in the first verse, ‘Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.’ Then he continues to expound the beauty that radiates from the presence of God, ‘Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King’.Psalm 48:2
Why is the Psalmist so joyful and full of gratitude? It is because he and his subjects have experienced God’s tender care and protection from the attacks of their enemies; ‘Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.’ Psalm 48:6,7
So whether you are feeling the attacks of enemies or not you are welcome to join us on Prayers of Hope as we celebrate with the Psalmist the blesses which we have and will experience under the tender care and protection of our great God.
