In the concluding episode of our series looking at events and locations around the story of the Cross of Jesus, we come to examine Mark's approach to the narrative. Mark is characteristically brief in his description , but that does not lessen the impact of his descriptions. Why does he mention the Sabbath. Does worrying over the future bring a sense of trepidation? Why does this after - crucifixion narrative tell us about why and how we ought to share the good news. Why do different verses disappear in some bible versions?

In the concluding verses of his second letter, the apostle Peter continues to encourage his hearers to prepare for the return of Jesus, the day of the Lord. He sees it as being imminent, cataclsmic, and definitive, especially for the enemies of God's people. The followers of Christ look forward with anticipation , hope and preparedness. Living in the present but in readiness for the future. Peter references the challenging theology of Paul but refocuses the church on being stable and steadfast in theit faith. the implication for those of us living so much closer to the end are clear, and even more urgent that when Peter first wrote. We must be ready!

Peter continues to warn against false teachers and in these verses he details some of the characteristics they portray. he references imagery and history to make his point, including highlighting the story of Balaam in Numbers. He also addresses the deception of the gulf between words and actions. They talk of freedom and liberty but evidence that they speak because they are help bondage by Satan, They, and those who follow them, are in great danger . The warning is made graphically clear. Following Jesus leads to being and doing right.

Some are more deceptive than others but just as dangerous because they come from the same source, the evil One, Peter outlines the characteristics of such individuals, which serves as a warning against them as well as becoming like them.
