Psalms 74 was written by Asaph, which may be referring to the descendants from this tribe rather than the individual. This is a Psalm of contemplation which expresses sorrow and lamentation at the capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar.

There is a detailed description of the misery that the Jews suffered at this time, and also the total destruction of the magnificent Temple which was built by Solomon. Why have the people of God suffered like this? May be the question that comes to mind, we invite you to join us on Prayers of Hope to discover the answer. We will also learn that no matter what challenges we are experiencing we can still cry out to God for relief.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 74:1-23 Lamentations 5:20 Lamentations 2:3 Exodus 15:16 Jeremiah10:16 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Exodus 20:24 Deuteronomy 12:11 Lamemtations 2:2 Lamentations 2:9 Deuteronomy 9:28 1 Kings 24:1-4 Psalms 116:15 Ezekiel 33:11 Deuteronomy 6:18 Deuteronomy 7:14-15.

In this Psalm Asaph who is the chief Levite musician under king David describes his mental conflict which he is experiencing. He has observed the apparent prosperity of the wicked, while the righteous appear to suffer persecution.

However the Psalmist begins the Psalm by declaring the goodness of God towards His faithful children. He then proceeds to present his case to God in evenly weighted verses which alternate between an analysis of the problem and a discovery of it’s solution.

The answer to his dilemma was found in the Sanctuary, what about the Sanctuary you may be asking? Well, we invite you to please join us on Prayers of Hope where we will be enlightened regarding what is so special about the Sanctuary. We look forward to serve you on our Prayer Breakfast show.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 73:1-28 Ecclesiastes 5:8 Job 34:22 2 Kings 19:14.

In the beautiful pray in Psalms 72 king David describes the desired character and nature of a future king. Under inspiration David has prayed that the ideal king will make decisions not according to his own will but according to the perfect will of God.

He goes on to request that the king will be an advocate for the poor and a peacemaker. These noble and manly characteristics are what the Psalmist's desires for his own son Solomon who will soon ascend the throne as the next king of Judah.

The predictions regarding the reign of king Solomon are intertwined with Messianic applications which refer to Christ and His everlasting kingdom. In the conclusion of this prayer God is blessed and glorified as David declares, Psalm 72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. 19 And blessed be His glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen. 20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

So whether or not you are a parent desiring God’s blessings to flow upon your children as they faithfully strive to accomplish His will for their lives, you are invited to join us on Prayers of Hope. Where we too can make our prayer requests to our Heavenly Father and offer thanksgiving and praise for the blessings that we along with our loved-one will receive from Him.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 72:1-20 2 Samuel 23:3-4 Isaiah 24:23 John 5:29 John 14:6 Psalms 125:1-3 Zechariah 9:15-16 Isaiah 57:15 Isaiah 6:7.

Guests Diane Barnett and Pauline Thompson

This Psalm of David is probably the best known and loved of all the Psalms. It is widely known as the Shepherd Psalm, it is the delight of childhood and the consolation of old age. More books, articles, poems and hymns have been written on its theme than any other Psalm.

It has a message for both men and women of every generation; two illustrations are beautifully presented. The first, is a gentle Shepherd leading His sheep to rest and nourishment while protecting them from the dangers of the wilderness. The second picture is that of a gracious host generously providing an abundance of food and tender care for His guests.

The Psalm closes with a profession of absolute confidence in our Heavenly Father to lead His children lovely through this life and entertain them as His guest throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity.

What a fitting Psalm for study and our mediation as we come to the last day in 2022 and reach the threshold of a new year. So please join us on Prayers of Hope where we will focus on Jesus Christ our Good Shepherd who will never abandon us. He will carry us holding us close to His heart so that we can confidently enter 2023 and whatever the future brings in this life through to eternal life, we can be assured that with our Good Shepherd we shall never be in want for He will supply all our needs in exceeding abundance.

In the words of the Psalmist, Psalms 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Hallelujah! Amen and Amen.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 23:1-6 Genesis 48:15 Psalms 78:52 Psalms 80:1 Psalms 119:179 Isaiah 40:11 Ezekiel 34 Micah 7:14 Luke 15:3-7 John 10:1-18 John 21:15-17 Hebrews 13:20 1 Peter 2:25 1 Peter 5:4 Matthew 22:1-14.
