Our Prayers in the Psalms for this week is Psalms 48, a joyful composition by king David. He begins his praise by stating in the first verse, ‘Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.’ Then he continues to expound the beauty that radiates from the presence of God, ‘Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King’.Psalm 48:2

Why is the Psalmist so joyful and full of gratitude? It is because he and his subjects have experienced God’s tender care and protection from the attacks of their enemies; ‘Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.’ Psalm 48:6,7

So whether you are feeling the attacks of enemies or not you are welcome to join us on Prayers of Hope as we celebrate with the Psalmist the blesses which we have and will experience under the tender care and protection of our great God.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 48:1-14;Matthew 5:35 36; Psalms 61:3; Isaiah 54:10;

Psalms 46 is a very honourable hymn which exalts the power of God to safeguard His people in times of great trouble. It is assumed that the author is king David and that he designed this hymn in three stanzas, which are diverse in their content; presenting images of roaring water, rocky mountains, a tranquil river, nations in commotion, the earth melting at the voice of the LORD and Him reigning peacefully over every nation.

This Psalm of refuge is designated as the Psalm of the reformer Martin Luther. He was accustomed to sing it in times of trouble and he paraphrased it in his hymn A Mighty Fortress is Our God.. Please join us on Prayers of Hope as we focus on the protection and empowerment which our God graciously gives us when we need it most.

Bible Texts:
Psalms 46:1-11; Isaiah 43:2; John 4:10 14: John 14:27; 2 Chronicles 20:21 22: Deuteronomy 4:24; Psalms 9:9; Exodus 14:14; Isaiah 54:17.

Psalm 34 is a Psalm of David, it was composed when he changed his behaviour in the presence of Abimelech who sent him away without harming him. The theme of this Psalm is God's tender care for those who are afflicted. Here Psalmist used the Hebrew alphabet accept for one letter, to express his gratitude and praise to God.
Please Join us on Prayers of Hope as we Praise the Lord at all times and refuse to rely on our feelings but instead trust in the assurance that He gives us in His Holy words. For God is good to us morning , noon and night, and that cannot be denied.

Psalms 34:1-22; Ephesians 5:20; Proverbs 19:23; Proverbs 4:22; Proverbs 3:17; James 3:8; John 15:5; Ezekiel 36:26 27; Psalms 119:71; John 19:36; Exodus 12:46; Numbers 9:12.

Psalms 69 is a mournful cry from king David who is overwhelmed with grief and torment. Because he is a victim of hostility from his enemies due to his faith in God. Here he describes his personal suffering but there are sections in this Psalm that some New Testament writers have applied to the suffering of our LORD Jesus Christ, the one who is the chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely.

We truly serve a God who can empathise with us when we are innocently victimised and persecuted. While he alone carried the burden of all our sins on His shoulders He does not leave us to carry our burdens alone. He invites us to cast them upon Him because He loves and cares for us.

So please join us on Prayers of Hope as we are reminded that we are more dearly loved by our Saviour when we encounter suffering for His cause.

Psalms 29 was composed by king David who was not content to merely paint a picture of nature in script but we also see the power and glory of nature's awesome Creator, God's Name is mentioned 18 times in this Psalm.

The structure of this Psalm exhibits an elaborate symmetry, which appears in the introduction in verses 1 and 2. This symmetry continues in the description of the storm with the sevenfold repetition of the phrase, "the voice of the LORD" in verses 3-9 and in the conclusion in verses 10 and 11.

Tradition indicates that in the second Temple this Psalm was sung on the final day of the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles. In modern times it is included in the synagogue service on the first day of Pentecost and forms part of the Sabbath liturgy.

So please join us on Prayers of Hope as we give glory to our Creator and soon coming King of kings and LORD of Lord, Jesus Christ.

Psalm 28 was composed by king David when he was experiencing the strong temptation to follow the course of wicked. The Psalm consists of two contrasting divisions; the first section is a cry for deliverance from trouble in verses 1-5. The second section in verses 6-9, is expressing gratitude to God for granting that deliverance which was pleaded for.

This prayer is especially appropriate for the Christians who feels drawn back towards the negative habits that dominated their life before conversion. Whatever your situation may be there is hope and comfort awaiting you as we focus on the inspired words of this Psalm. So please join us on Prayers of Hope and receive a special blessing.

This Psalm of David is probably the best known and loved of all the Psalms. It is widely known as 'The Shepherd Psalm'. It is the delight of childhood and the consolation of old age. I has a message for every generation.

There has been more books, articles, poems and hymns written on theme of this Psalm than any other Psalm. It beautifully presents two pictures; one of a gentle Shepherd leading His sheep to rest and nourishment while protecting them from the dangers of the wilderness. And the second picture is that of a gracious host generously providing an abundance of food and tender care for His guests.

The Psalm concludes with a profession of absolute confidence in Our Heavenly Father to lead His child lovingly through this life and entertain him as His guest throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity.

So whatever your circumstances may be, please join us on Prayers of Hope as we focus on the Heavenly Shepherd who can supply all your needs and wants.
